Hands on Humanity
At The Australian Group Travel Company we are passionate about creating travel experiences that raise the social consciousness and awareness of young people through community service projects with the underprivileged and disadvantaged people in the countries they visit while on tour. To do this we've developed Hands on Humanity - and we're excited to share this with you.

What we believe
We believe that, in our own small way, we can make the world a better place by engaging young people in life changing experiences that make a positive difference, on so many levels, to everyone involved. We know that some of life's most important lessons take place outside the classroom, so we believe that every travel experience should inspire and reward.
Our projects
We have partnered with many reputable non government organisations (NGOs) across the globe to create inspirational experiences and opportunities for school and sporting groups. Projects may involve some of the following: sports initiatives and activities, outdoor gardening and maintenance, music and dance programs, language programs etc and can take from one day to one week of your tour. We are guided by our exceptional charitable partners and professional educators when selecting appropriate projects.
Our mission
Our mission is to establish and nurture relationships between schools and students from across the globe for the purpose of promoting understanding and humanity through hands-on projects and cultural immersion.
Focus
Our Hands on Humanity programs focus on leadership, personal challenge, teamwork, cultural immersion and responsible travel. Students will work and interact with teachers in a completely new way and both are encouraged to have input into the planning process of their project.
Life skills
By engaging in our Hands on Humanity projects, students become more independent and gain an insightful view of the world. The Hands on Humanity learning experience incorporates lessons in leadership, decision making, team work, goal setting, tolerance, selflessness and personal responsibility and awakens the senses to the needs of others. These important life skills remain with students long after their travel experience is completed.
Also, if you are wondering about the above photo on this page - it is of Gareth from The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir during their visit to the Yodak Children's Hospital in Shanghai, China. The children in this hospital are are not only very poor, but suffer from life threatening heart conditions. They were so grateful to receive all the gifts the choir members brought, and especially for the concert that they put on including some heartfelt songs in Mandarin.
If you would like to learn more about our Hands on Humanity opportunities, or if you have an idea of your own in mind, we would love to discuss this fabulous program with you. We are sure it will be a major highlight of your tour.
